As per the requirements of the contract between Black Sea Terminal LLC (BST) and Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia, Kulevi Oil Terminal regularly conducts environmental monitoring. The process of environmental monitoring is described in the monitoring scheme, which has been approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia.

 

According to the current monitoring scheme, BSTmust conduct integrated environmental monitoring on a quarterly basis. This includes:

 

  • Soil sampling pertaining to hydrocarbon contentinside the terminal
  • Water sampling, including Tsiva River and the Port channel, against various pollutants
  • Noise monitoring at terminal in areas with high noise levels
  • Air quality monitoring in compliance with local and international standards

 

Additional environmental monitoring includes:

 

  • Product turnover
  • Fuel consumption
  • Pumps and generator running hours
  • Raw material consumption
  • Energy consumption
  • Water consumption
  • Dredging amounts
  • Waste production monitoring
  • Incident monitoring
  • Training monitoring
  • Bathymetry data
  • Shoreline and topography
  • Weather data
  • Social data

 

Information collected from all BST departments and the quarterly monitoring, is the basisfor the monthly environmental and annual Environmental Monitoring Report that is sent to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia every year.
