Safety Meeting at BST

Black Sea Terminal’s (BST) main goal in HSE is “ZERO ACCIDENTS”. In order to maintain good safety awareness among BST staff and to improve the safety culture among our personnel, it is necessary to conduct regular safety meetings with BST employees, contractors and visitors. Black Sea Terminal is committed to protecting the health and safety of all employees, and to ensuring that our activities are not harmful to the environment and the greater community.

Some of the methods used to comply with these principles include: Maintaining an externally certified health, safety and environmental management system; the elimination of hazards and practices that could result in accidents and injuries to personnel; complying with legal requirements and providing training and resources to personnel to maintain a Safe Operating System (SOS).

Conducting safety meetings is one of the ways BST implements SOS. Safety Meetings are conducted on a regular basis where supervisors of all departments discuss issues related to SOS, best practices and safety culture with their respected personnel. Each department of the conducts a safety meeting weekly with the participation of HSE personnel. Supervisors conduct safety meetings with employees when they are first hired, when a new process or procedure is implemented and when a new or previously unrecognized hazard is identified. Additional topics discussed in the meetings include the discussion of raised Safety Observation Cards, Accidents/Incidents, Issues related to health protection, various video material and HSE campaign materials. Safety meetings provide an excellent opportunity for personnel to openly discuss health and safety issues identified as a workplace hazard. Safety meetings are also conducted with office and leadership personnel.

Safety meetings are also conducted with contractor personnel. Meetings are held regularly by HSE personnel in order to ensure that contractors observe a high level of safety culture.

All Safety meetings are recorded. All issues that are raised during the meeting are forwarded department-wide for consideration and corrective actions.

Improving safety culture among personnel on continual basis is an excellent method for keeping employees safe.
